Chapter 31 Spider sword
Sandra was greatly annoyed at the fact that Xander and Harry didn't choose to go through the unexplored path.
She kind of felt bad that the two boys would die in this place. She kind of had eyes for out for Xander but he'll die eventually.
Since she found out that the game became real She was extremely scared. She always avoided monsters for fear of dying and always chose to play it safe.
She of all people, a game maniac and a skilled person with the sword was scared because she had something to live for. Everyone does.
She was extremely excited when the new game 'League of Guardians' came out. Since her father was the owner of the one of the best gaming technology companies in the world, she naturally used the best.
However, comfort was all in vain when the game didn't allow her to log out anymore. And what's worse, pain could be felt in the game so she tried to avoid that as possible.
As an only child, ever since she was little she has been always pampered and treated like a princess, she wasn't used to working hard for the things she had.
After the stupid game got reset she didn't have time to do anything as she got pulled out of her territory and lost consciousness. When she woke up she was in these catacombial caves filled with confusing pathways and dangerous creatures.
What's worse, the only two people she could relate with, her fellow human, followed a suicidal path to find an escape route.
"I don't need them." She scoffed.
She focused on the map and began extending a peculiar path with a charred bone as she has walked into unexplored grounds.
Sandra stopped in her tracks as she saw light coming from the end of the path she took and her eyes gleamed with happiness as she dropped the torch and ran towards it.
'I found it. I'll finally leave this place.'
Sandra stopped the moment she reached the end of the path that lead to where the light was. Her eyes widened and she didn't dare to take another step further.
What she was seeing... couldn't be said with words...
'I... I think I should go back. Th... this looks too dangerous.'n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
...
On the other path Xander and Harry were fighting off the level 10 to 25 monsters. They were large spiders the size of a car and they seemed endless.
Xander stretched his hand forward and blue flames shot out of them in a stream, burning the spider in front of him.
Harry wasn't anywhere around him, or was he?
The air vibrated as if something moved and the head of a spider creature was cleaved off of its body.
Xander smiled as he turned in Harry's direction.
"I told you, think of it as a game and you'll be fine. But try not to die." Xander blasted a spider duo that were coming towards him with his blue flame.
He was getting used to using the energy in him to cast his spells. The more he casted the spells the more he got used to it and it became easier for him.
He quickly casted a glance at Harry who just popped out of a wall and sliced one of the spiders necks.
'I wonder if he has to actually learn his skills.' He thought.
Xander had no weapon in hand so he had to use his fists to fight off the spiders that came too close. They were very scary with their six eyes that glowed red in the darkness.
The monster striked with it's legs which were as thick as a bamboo stem.
Xander couldn't help but think that the creatures could see in the dark since all of them attacked where he was despite the darkness.
'Must be because of they have been in this cave for long, the darkness has become a natural thing for them.'
Soon, Harry a Xander finished off the more than thirty spiders on their own and Harry emerged from the shadows looking fatigued, but also, he had a smile on his face.
"How you feeling?" Xander asked with an expectant smile.
"I feel great. Those spiders were slow and they weren't as dangerous as I thought." Harry answered while looking at his friend with a gaze filled with reverence.
Xander was indeed right. Standing up to his enemies felt great and killing them felt even better. He couldn't wait to slice up more monsters.
"Let's keep walking down this path. Me and Sandra didn't pass here so we didn't go beyond the spiders territory."
Harry walked towards him.
Xander nodded as he put his hand on his jaw, calculating his benefits from the earlier fight. He managed to level up one more time and once again, the exp requirement doubled.
But that wasn't all, due to his bug slayer title, he received two times exp and managed to level up two times in this one battle.
Each level of monster gave Xander five times more exp that a monster of the previous level. Level 1 monsters gave Xander 5 exp and these level 10 - 15 monsters gave him 50 - 75 exp each.
If not for his bug slayer title he wouldn't be able to level up in this fight with the spiders and now due to leveling up his stamina and Mana has been recharged and he is back to top shape.
[You have killed level 10 cave spider x9. You have gained 450 exp. Bug slayer, you recieved 900 exp instead.]
[You have killed level 12 cave spider x4, level 13 cave spider x2, level 14 cave spider x1. You have earned 3980 exp in total.]
[You have levelled up to level 9. You have gained five free Stat points to assign. Mana +20, stamina +20]
Xander smiled at the notifications. He was getting stronger and stronger with each monster he killed and he can't still get the feeling off that something is building up within him.
"Hey Xander."
Xander's thoughts were disrupted when he heard Harry calling him from behind and he turned.
Harry had a smile on his face as a blue screen was in front of him and he scrolled through.
"What?" Zander asked, walking towards Harry who had a grin.
"Here."
An object appeared on Harry's hand and he threw it to Xander making him almost miss a step.
"What...?"
Xander stared at what Harry gave him. It was a long, thin sword which was in a black wooden sheath.
Xander pulled it out an an azure blade came into view, it didn't have any fancy carvings or inscriptions but still look beautiful. Just above the handle before the blade there was a spider face with four of it's legs pointing upwards towards the blade.
[Name: Spider sword]
[Description: Made from the webs of level 10 cave spiders. Due to the spider's web being extremely strong, strong enough to hold a level 20 creature it was made into a sword.
– When equipped Strength + 10, Mana +20.
– It can ignore the defence of monsters up to level 20.
– It has one skill 'Web slash'.]
[Web slash: The cave spider's webs were extremely thin and strong. Wave your sword while imbueing Mana into it and send a single thin web made of Mana to cut monsters.
– Monsters must be below level 15 to cut through completely.
– Cannot be upgraded.
– Costs 5 Mana points.]
This was a huge boost of Xander's power but he didn't feel nice taking away something that Harry got.
"Are you sure about this? It has a skill." He said, but he hoped Harry would still say no.
"It's fine. I can't use three swords. And besides short swords are for my class specifically, not long ones." Harry shrugged.
"Thanks." Xander said as he sheathed the sword. He was really grateful to Harry and he looked at his stats that went up.

After checking on his status he decided to upgrade his skill 'Revive and enslave' as he didn't know what level it will be to evolve and it won't have such a tight limit.
Xander and Harry made their way deeper into the tunnels. It was not so crowded with monsters like at the entrance of this path but a monster still showed up once in a while and was eventually killed by one of the two duo.
*pa!*
"Ah!"
Xander held his foot as he kicked a rock beneath him and he fell to the floor on his back.
"Are you okay?" Harry ran to his side with the torch but Xander just tapped his feet and soon the pain subsided and he was okay.
But what came next made him want to cry.
[You have kicked a rock. The second challenge has been triggered]
What do you think?
